"Katie was wrong," Carmen interrupted him. "I don't want all this grandeur. Maybe it would be fine for her, but I'm happy with what we have. We have each other and the children. We have a comfortable home and work that keeps us challenged. We have so much and there are so many people who have so little."

He slid off the stool and stood. She slid off her stool into his waiting arms. For a few moments they held each other in their arms. Finally she looked up at him.

"I know what you mean about appreciating what you have when you nearly lose it. I pushed you into this vacation and when I thought you might not come back, I wished I had listened to you and stayed at home."

He kissed her. "I love you, Carmen."

"I love you too." She leaned back against his hands on her waist and looked up at him. "What were you talking about with Señor Medena when you came in? Something about emotional attachment to a horse? Have you found a horse you want?"

He chuckled. "Yes. As a matter of fact I have. The grulla.

She smiled. "I don't think you found him. I think he found you."

"Probably…do you mind?"

She frowned. "Why would I mind - because he's not a thoroughbred?"

He shrugged. "He used to be a wild horse. Did you know that?"

She shook her head and waited for the story. It was good to have Alex back again as his normal enthusiastic self.
