Kill Fest - Page 96/133

The actions of Crow attracted unwanted attention from the nearby patrolling law enforcement members who found the wounded Jodi and were now aware of other gunmen in the complex. Within the upper levels and desperate to blend in with the travelers, the couple found themselves ducking into the storefront shops that lined the business portion of the complex to evade the law. They also held in the back of their minds that two other gunmen were hunting them as well. With a structure so large and populated with so many, Stryker knew the police could never just shut down a subway system so immense. Incoming and departing trains could never be stopped without affecting the entire city, the surrounding boroughs, Long island and the state of New Jersey. The capture of renegade gunmen would have to be conducted under working subway station conditions. Thus being the only advantage Aurora and Stryker had, to hide among the main population.

Among racks of books, magazines and other merchandise, Aurora worked her way deep into the back of one of the store's lost and forgotten inventory. Her partner stood midway within the bookstores midsection, he took watch in case they needed to make a hasty retreat or if pushed, take a stand and fight their way out. Although she may have needed it, Aurora ditched the gun Jodi gave her since she didn't have a good place to hide it on her person. Tucking it into the back of her jeans would have worked if she wore a garment that could have covered over it, but the thing stuck out in plain sight under her thinly, plain white tank top. She hated to lose it and hoped the extra fire power would not be missed if they had to fight their way to street level.

Along the rows of books as her cover, the professional hired gun reached into her back pocket and retrieved her cell phone. Her heart beating madly as she dialed the Miami number. It was only 3 rings before a voice responded on the other end.

"Hello, is that you Aurora?" a female voice questioned.

With a slight squeak in her speech. Aurora replied, "Athena…..yeah it's me, your sister."

"Look. I really don't have time right now for your shit."

"Please Athena, I have to hear your voice."

"Why, what have you done now?"

"Just please talk to me, if only for a moment."

"Aurora are you alright, you don't sound very good."

"I just wanted to hear your voice, that's all, please tell the girls I love them."

"Yeah sure, you sure you're alright?"

"Yeah…..yeah I'm good, just tell them I love them okay."
