Sara pushed Roy away. "Oh Roy, you're biased."

They drove straight to the hotel in town and called on Bill Brown and David Hunter. The clerk informed them that the two men were currently in the sheriff's office.

When they entered the sheriff's office, Bill looked up and smiled. "I kind of figured you'd show up today." Bill tipped his hat toward Sara. "Good afternoon ma'am. Well, Roy, did you have any further questions for us?"

"Just a few, Bill."

David grabbed some chairs and pulled them up to the sheriff's desk and Bill stood behind the desk with his arms folded across his chest.

"Go ahead, sir."

"You said this was a paid position. Could I inquire how much?"

"Should I assume then, that you're willing to take the position?"

Roy checked with Sara, who nodded. "Yes."

"Well good. The pay starts out at four-hundred dollars a month and should increase every year, provided you're doing the job we expect of you."

"Four-hundred. Really?" Roy could not believe it.

"Of course there are other benefits too and you'll need to travel to Washington for one month. Your family can come along if they like. After that, we'll come out here and set up an office and get you acquainted with your duties."

Roy stood to his feet. "Then I accept."

"That's excellent Roy. You won't regret joining our group; we're a terrific bunch of men who care a great deal about the law and our country. Your experience will be a tremendous benefit to us. Did you have any other questions?"

"Oh, yes, when do you want me to start?"

"You just did sir. Now go home with your beautiful wife and celebrate. We'll stop by your place tomorrow and finish the discussions."

Roy grabbed Bill's hand and pumped it hard then did the same with David's. "Thank you again."

After the family had left the sheriff's office, David leaned into Bill and asked, "You really think he'll be a good agent?

"Darn straight I do. Son that man will be one of the finest agents this organization has ever seen. Mark my word."

As Roy, Sara and the boys drove out of town; Grover Matting came out of the bank and flagged them to stop.

"Roy, I have good news; we have a buyer for Sara's land. When can you come to the bank and sign the papers Mrs. Folsom?"

"Can we do it the day after tomorrow?"

"That will be just fine Mrs. Folsom. You're going to love their offer; they're paying cash."

"Now Grover, this isn't cash banded with the Wells Fargo named stamped on it?"
