For a while, Sara began to softly cry and Roy continued to hold her in his arms. Rocking gently, he tried to comfort Sara. "You don't need to tell this story if you don't want to. I can only imagine how awful it was."

Sara steadied herself. "One of the twins managed to catch me before I could open the front door. He grabbed my arm and tore open my shirt. I still remember the look in his eyes because it was wild like an animal and not human." Sara shuddered. "For a long time the twins took turns savagely raping me clawing at my flesh. I thought the nightmare would never end. When they finished, they each spat on me and sauntered out the front door. As soon as the door slammed shut, I heard a gun blast. Pulling myself together, I walked to the front door and saw both Cready twins lying on the porch bleeding everywhere and screaming in pain. There was so much blood. Abe was picking himself off the ground and had Olof's smoking shotgun in his hands.

"Somehow, although I don't know how, we managed to load their still bleeding bodies into the buckboard and drove them into town. Sheriff Dinkins took care of them after that, but I never told him what they did to me. Although, I suspect he figured it out, he never said a thing."

"Did Abe or Billy see anything?"

Sara shook her head. "I don't think so and they never asked any questions afterward either."

"What happened to the Cready twins? Did they die?"

"No, fortunately, they lived. They were pretty disfigured from the shotgun blast, but they survived. They never came near here or ever bothered us again. I think they were afraid of Abe. I don't know what would have happened to Abe if he had actually killed two men. Many months after their visit, the Cready twins tangled with the wrong man. In a drunken fight at the saloon, several men eliminated them both, removing the Cready lineage from the face of the earth forever."

Anger quickly raged inside Roy. He was glad the Cready twins were dead because Sara's story reminded Roy of the incident with Michelle Dubois. Roy had killed enough men during the war and the thought of ever doing it again disgusted him. "I'm so sorry this happened to you Sara." Roy bent his head and lightly kissed Sara on her forehead.

"I've been afraid to tell you any of this because I feared you wouldn't want anything to do with me if you found out. But, after you told your story about Mrs. Dubois, I ah… well, I…"
