A Walk on the Water - Page 108/186

The two young women layed down on the bed, but Alannah could not turn off her brain and as she lay awake staring at the ceiling thinking about the events of that day, she thought to herself "How utterly thoughtless and selfish I was behaving! Seeing that Father has sent his men here could only mean one thing, he is closer to arriving than I thought. Can I truly be safe here? Am I good enough to marry someone like Dominic or to be a mother to his children? NO, but for the sins of my father I must be punished, and to live a life void of happiness is all that I can hope for."

"Come, wake up it's time for supper."

Alannah stirred as she was gently nudged into wakefulness by Anya, who was already awake. For a brief moment it seemed as though she had woke up to a brand new new, untroubled day, but then she remembered the events of a few hours past.

"Anya, I'm so sorry for ranting earlier! You must think that I am quite mad, and completely selfish."

Anya sighed and smiled, "Actually, Alannah I don't, I am however worried about you. Although we all have good and bad days it is usually good to talk to someone about it. I hope that in the future you can trust me or Dominic to talk to one of us during your bad days. You are not alone, please remember this, it is in moments such as this when Santiago shines, and it truly makes me realize how lucky I am to have married such a man as he. Not only is he a great husband and caregiver, but he is also my best friend, I can talk to him about anything that bothers me."

"Alright I will, I still feel like I have been such a fool and a big nuisance," Alannah said

"Well, if you are expecting me to hold your actions against you," Anya said with laughter in her voice. "I'm afraid that you will be disappointed, I'm not the sort."

Going downstairs to collect Tim, they found him playing happily with his grandfather in the family room. Pierre made a half-hearted attempt to appear dignified but couldn't disguise the love in his eyes for his grandson. "Would you look at those hands? He is going to be a fine man someday, just like his papa." Pierre exclaimed.

"Yes, I am sure he will, and like and his papa's papa, as well" Anya said with a broad smile, she reached down to pick up the baby and gave her father-in-law a grateful kiss on the cheek for taking good care of the baby.
