A Walk on the Water - Page 138/186

"So what you are saying is that I came here as the perfect person, like I was ready-made?" Alannah said in a mocking tone.

"You know you did, so don't be silly," Anya told her. She took a deep breath and surveyed the lands before them. "What a wonderful place you have, Mrs Beringer. You and Dominic should have lots of children, then the place would feel more welcoming and appear more lived-in. But then again, you may have already started." Anya said with a devious little smile. "Oh and speaking of that, I am going to have a little bambino as well. We could raise them together!"

"OH Anya, that is great news. To be honest I hope that I am not, at least not right now. I do want children I just think that while my father is after me that it would be best to wait." Alannah told her.

Anya gave her a stern look, "Alannah you do realize that the business with your father may never be completely done, right? That child is a gift from God. Are you going to sit back and let the possibility of your father hunting you ruin your life? You can't run from who and what you are, Alannah, no more than you can run from the fact that blood is blood, and your family is who they are."

"I know that," Alannah responded, "but I do feel it is best if my father and Dominic meet face-to-face."

"Why would you do that, what if you are already with child?" Anya asked

"I don't know," Alannah told her honestly, "I do feel as if something important will come of the two of them being together. I can feel it in my gut, that something will happen - what, I don't know, but it is something that will affect us all."

"All of us?" Anya asked with a smile. "You mean just your immediate family, of course."

"No," Alannah rejoined, "I quite literally mean all of us. I know how ridiculous that sounds, but Anya there is something special about my "philosophising" that you should know. I have a unique awareness of the underlying structure of things - you might call this being a sensative.

"You can't be around men like my father or Dominic without being able to get some sense about the world they live in. For me that includes being able to glimpse past the façade they put up around themselves."

"You are far too cerebral for me, Alannah," Anya said shaking her head. "I am content with reading my Scriptures after supper and feeling content that the good Lord is watching over my family and keeping us safe."
