A Journey Through Hell: Visions of the Afterlife - Page 27/45

Jessica woke up to a voice talking to her. "You have to burn off your bad karma. You have to be reborn in purity."

Jessica suddenly felt herself being lifted violently, she gave a small cry. "Where are you taking me?" She asked feebly.

"You have to burn off your bad karma. You have to be reborn in purity." The voice sounded like a recording, but also sounded rushed and urgent.

"Won't somebody tell me what's going on?" She began to panic; she could not see.

She screamed as she was dropped into scalding hot liquid. Jessica screamed so loud that she couldn't hear footsteps going away from her. She calmed down after a while as the liquid began to cool. She investigated her surroundings with only four senses. She was in a round tub; the liquid felt slippery and seemed to coat her skin. It was also waist deep.

Just as she thought she was going to be okay, more of the burning liquid was poured on her. As Jessica screamed in pain, it quickly filled her mouth.

Suddenly, she felt herself being lifted out of the liquid; she felt blisters rising on her skin. "Where are we going now?" She said. The words were slightly slurred because of the blisters that were forming on her tongue and the inside of her cheeks.

"You have to burn of your bad karma. You have to be reborn in purity."

Jessica was dumped onto hard soil, and then lifted to her feet. She could feel someone tying her to something tall and sturdy. She instantly thought of a tree. Thinking that this surely couldn't be as bad as the liquid, she didn't try to ask questions or get away or scream. Jessica even relaxed a little.

Suddenly, her eyes popped open and she could see again, but then, she didn't want to once she saw what was in front of her. Small, red men, evil-looking men, staring at her, like the main course at a fantastic meal.

"Release." One of them said.

Jessica heard squawking before she could see anything. Before long, though, she saw birds flying toward her, madness in their eyes. Her mouth opened in a silent scream. The birds pecked at her eyes and left her to rot.

Hinduism is based on the idea of reincarnation. Because of this, hell is just a stopping point where souls burn off evil before going on to the next life. The number of hells vary, some accounts list a total of 136 separate underworld realms, each responding to a different sin. In hell, the spirit rids itself of bad karma (the sum of evil acts).
