Arflin joined Juan and waited while the man made the fake drivers license.

Arflin asked Juan if he knew where he could buy a good used car and if there were any furnished apartments for rent.

"When we leave here I will take you to a friend of mine who sells used cars and trucks. He will give you a good deal. There is an apartment vacant in the building where I live. After you get a car you can follow me and I will introduce you to my landlord," Juan told him.

Once again luck had been on Arflin's side. He would have to be extremely careful now. The authorities knew he was in the immediate area. He needed to familiarize himself with the city of Bogota and find a good escape route if the occasion should arise and he were to need one.

Juan took Arflin to a car dealer he knew. Arflin bought a four-wheel drive jeep. He figured that would be perfect for traveling the back roads and into the jungles. He would keep a low profile for a couple of weeks before he sought his next victim. He rented the apartment and for the next two weeks he was an upstanding citizen of Bogota.

He knew he needed a plan B. He thought about going to the west coast. He could buy a small sailboat and keep it docked there. That way he could have another plan of escape. He could get someone to fly him there and it would be pretty hard to find him once he set sail.

He asked Juan if he knew of any private airstrips where he could rent a pilot with a small plane. He told him he wanted to do a little sight seeing. What Arflin had in mind was to check out some escape routes by air just in case. Juan told him about a small airfield near by.

One morning Arflin drove over to the airfield. There were three or four small airplanes parked out near the edge of the field. He hired the pilot of one of the small planes to take him for a ride.

"My name is Carmen De Jesus. Where would you like to go today?" The pilot asked Arflin.

"I would like to go to the west coast. Maybe Santa Marta or Cartagena on the Caribbean, I am thinking about buying a sailboat and I understand I might find a good deal at one of those ports," Arflin said.

"No problem senor. I need to gas the plane up and we will be on our way," Carmen told him.
