So, that night, Kathy went to bed in Mrs. Sloan's Bed & Breakfast suite. She couldn't decide whether she wasn't able to sleep because she felt the responsibility of having little Stephanie in her care, because she felt the sting of jealousy knowing that David was loving and caring for another girl the way he hadn't felt like loving and caring for her. Or was it the guilt for feeling jealous of David's new girlfriend when Jesse was trying so hard to make her happy?
Her mother was right. Guilt headed her sleepless thoughts, followed by a considerable dose of jealousy.
Mrs. Sloan's memory, which would supposedly have been the cause of her not being able to sleep in this room, was the last thing on her mind that night.
When she realized that, Kathy felt guilty.
