Chapter 573: Assassinate the Saintess

Where they had a drink was still inside the casino. It was in an elegant private room.
After all, Lady Seven was from the Tu Family and she was a frequent visitor to the casino. To request a private location to have a drink was not a difficult business.
Three sides of the room had a big window where pink gauze curtains hung. The breeze was gentle, the curtain was dancing and the candle was flickering. As soon as Lu Li entered, he tasted a sense of romance. He also noted there was a passageway connecting this room to a bedroom. Evidently, this place was designed for important people to have privacy.
Two maids were kneeling on the ground to serve Lu Li and Lady Seven. Lady Seven had come to the casino with a girlfriend and two other young masters but she didn't take them to the private room, only a maid.
"Have a seat, please!"
Lady Seven pointed to a golden table across her. Lu Li acted quite at home. He strode over and sat down on the cushion. Lady Seven walked across him. She told the two maids to serve them wine.
After Lady Seven took her seat, she asked with a smile, "Now can you tell me your name?"
"Ha, ha!"
Lu Li laughed brightly and said, "Names are nothing but an alias. No matter how interesting a name is, it will never be as interesting as a person, now isn't it? You and I have met by chance. We may never see each other again after tonight. Why do we have to obsess over this? If Lady Seven must know a way to call me, just call me Anonymous."
"Ha, ha"
Lady Seven grinned wittily and said, "You are funny, interesting man. I have a question. An interesting guy like you should have been well-known. The Drifting Cloud Hall is not big. Why haven't I heard about you before?"
Lu Li was quite different from others. Tonight, he had gambled at high stakes and had lost the one billion Xuan Crystals but he still stayed calm and left with a laugh. People could tell what kind of man Lu Li was from this.
People with this sort of qualities and characteristics usually were like glaring stars in the night sky. Nothing could conceal their brightness.
Granted, Lu Li was of a low realm. But Lady Seven had noted that he was a man hard to neglect after first sight. If he was from the Tu Family, how come Lady Seven had never heard of him? Hence, her question.
Lu Li showed no emotional changes. But he did put his guards up. Lady Seven was born in a distinguished household, after all. She was experienced. If she saw him through, then the night would be a waste. On top of that, there would be big problems.
Lu Li thought quickly. Soon, an idea came to his mind. He picked up his goblet, drank it up, stared out of the window with a lonely feeling and said, "There are some things I wish not to speak of. You see, during the past several years, I have been quite depressed. I am addicted to alcohol and gambling. I am drunk every day. Who will notice me?"
Lady Seven felt she had opened an old wound of Lu Li. She felt embarrassed, looking at how low-spirited he was.
But she did know better. Something must have happened to Lu Li a couple of years ago so he had been downhearted. How could an alcohol addict and gambler become famous?
"I am sorry!"
Staring into Lu Li's deep, clear eyes with a touch of sorrow, looking at his rigid face, Lady Seven picked up her goblet and said, "I have crossed the line. I will drink this as an apology."
As soon as the goblet of wine went into her stomach, her cheeks turned rosy. She seemed to be more charming. She waved the maids off and poured wine herself. She once again picked up her goblet and toasted, "Anonymous, here is to you. You are a man with taste."
Lu Li stared into her eyes and replied, "I can tell that you, Lady Seven, also have your stories. Women like you are interesting."
Lady Seven felt she was seen through by Lu Li's radiating eyes. She had become a transparent person with no secret. Her heart rate was accelerating as if she was a young girl flipped by a crush.
Lu Li had some experience dealing with slutty women. There were two kinds of them. The first kind was born to be loose and easy and preferred lust. The second kind was poor women that were once hurt by the world or by a love affair. The second kind could not accept the reality. They chose to sink into despair, benumb themselves so that they could live less painfully.
No doubt, both Jiang Qiling and Lady Seven belonged to the second kind.
After spending so much time with Jiang Qiling, Lu Li knew very well how to deal with women like her. With several rounds of drinks, Lady Seven could hardly sit up. Her eyes misty and her skin hot. She was consumed with desire. If Lu Li were to walk over to her, hug her or flirt with her, she might show the most dissolute side of a woman.
But Lu Li wouldn't flirt with Lady Seven further. He had hit on Lady Seven for a reason, not to sleep with her.
Therefore, he smashed the goblet down and said melancholy, "The war between the Drifting Cloud Hall and the three forces, I think we are at the disadvantage. It's okay that some of us die. We live off the Drifting Cloud Hall so we should make sacrifices. But once we lost the war, people of the Drifting Cloud Hall will plummet into an abyss. Tu Family and the You Family will have no place to stay at the Clouds Plains…"
"Ha, ha."
Lady Seven answered in a carefree tone, "Life and death are decreed by fate. Wealth and rank are matters of destiny. My grandpa is looking for trouble himself. Who can stop him? He has gone to provoke the three forces and the Palace of Sun out of nowhere. If we lose, we lose. Worst comes to worst, we will die. To live like this is not interesting anyways."
Lu Li felt overjoyed secretly. He had said his words to get her talking. Now that Lady Seven has become a chatterbox, he wouldn't stop here.
At once, he looked at Lady Seven with his bright eyes and said, "Lady Seven, you are an intelligent woman. I think you have an idea even if you don't care or pry about them. How big do you think is our chance in winning this war?"
"Win? Hmm!"
Lady Seven smiled scornfully and said, "Ever since grandpa started to fall for that woman's deception, the Drifting Cloud Hall is determined for doom. That woman is too sinister. People like her will only bring endless troubles for the Drifting Cloud Hall. Now you see, we are in trouble."
"A woman?"
Lu Li trembled. His eyes glowed. He controlled himself not to breathe fast and asked in a way as calm as he could, "Lady Seven, are you talking about…the Saintess?"
"Who else?"
Lady Seven sipped her wine and said with a cold smile, "After this Saintess, who nobody knew any history about, arrived at the Drifting Cloud Hall, those old men have become obsessed. They all trust her. How many idiotic things have the Drifting Cloud Hall done over the past years? This time, a catastrophe is upon us…hmm, hmm. I have told grandpa so over a year ago that this woman is poison and she is going to hurt us. But they wouldn't listen!"
"We could have been able to avoid this war as long as we admit our mistakes to the Palace of Sun. They will solve the matter of the war. At their command, the three forces will retreat. Then we can figure out a way to sow discord among the three forces and we can easily get back at them. But the Saintess had to start a war and never admitted her mistake. The old guys trust her very much. She is going to bring doom to everyone…"
"What?"
Lu Li felt shocked inside. He had long suspected that the Saintess was Lu Ling but he never expected for her to be so good. She was extraordinary. He only guessed that Lu Ling was having an average position at the Drifting Cloud Hall. How could so many old guys listen to her?
Lu Li had some wine to calm down. He sipped it slowly. Suddenly, he smashed the goblet on the table and said, "Several friends of mine have died in battles. They don't even have whole bodies left. Now I see they have died in vain. The Saintess is poison. She will lead all my brothers and friends of Drifting Cloud Hall to destruction. Tonight, I will sneak into her room and kill her and avenge for my deceased friends. We are going to die anyways with a war going on. I prefer to die in this way, more meaningful."
