“I’m just going to send him away.” I said, but my heart was thudding. Was Shane, the man I’d loved for years, about to propose to me?
“Elizabeth,” Lacey cried. “Please come out. Shane brought your present and it’s not a thing. It’s a person. You’re going to want to come out now.” She banged on the door. “You need to come out now. I think I’m going to faint.”
“Oh God.” My face went white as I looked at Scott. I knew exactly who Shane had brought with him. There was only one person that Shane would bring to win me over.
“Elizabeth?” Scott looked at me with worried eyes. “Are you okay?”
“Yes.” I said and nodded slowly. How was I going to tell him the truth? How was I going to tell Scott everything about me and my past? There was no way he’d understand this. There was no way he’d understand what I’d hidden from him. I didn’t know what to say or do. He knew that Shane had hurt me, but he didn’t know everything. He didn’t know what I’d done. What Shane had done. What we’d done together. I wasn’t sure how Scott was going to react when we walked out that door. How he’d feel about me. All I knew was that Shane wasn’t going to be going away. And that he wanted me badly. He wanted us to have our happily ever after as well. The only problem was that I didn’t know what that was anymore.
