Simon tilted Trevor’s face toward him and kissed him. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
Simon shrugged. “Everything. For teaching me how to live. How to be happy.”
“I have to thank you for the same thing.”
They’d done that for each other—made each other happy. Things weren’t always easy, but what worth having really was? Trevor would always be a recovering addict...but the cravings were lessening. Being happy made things easier, having people he loved. He hadn’t had any close calls since that day in the hotel room. What mattered was that he kept fighting, kept trying, kept loving. That’s all life really was really about anyway. They had that, together.
“I want you. Sneak out with me. Live a little, doc. No one will notice we’re gone.”
Simon didn’t hesitate to do just what Trevor asked. They walked out together, knowing that for the first time in their lives, everything was rock solid.
