Connie drove to the station knowing it must have been Jack. He was waiting for her when she drove in and waved at her. She was happy to have a friendly face waiting on her once again. She felt her heart flipped flopped like it did when she was just a teenager. The first time she felt happy since her father died. They cleaned the office and Jack saw the picture of him on the ladder then sent Connie to the hardware store and get six five gallon tubs of that color of paint and stop by the local fast food place which was called Hot dog and more drive in on a very popular highway that went through town and picked up lunch
When Connie got back Jack had already had all of the old paint chips off of the front of the service station by using a sand blaster and stopped it then they went inside and sat at the check out stand and ate their lunch when the city's building inspector came in. He said he was just there to introduce himself and inform Jack that he needed to get hold the EPA to check out the tanks before he filled them with gas. Jack just nodded and told him that he was fully aware of what needed to be done and wasn't going to cut any corners....
