The Spider's Fly - Page 30/49

Lindsey’s mother Linda watched, as Lindsey struggled to write sentences, while the rest of the family ate. It was only the first day back to school, and already Lindsey was overloaded with homework. The first day back to school was a horrible day, and things didn’t to get better as the days progressed. Every day Lindsey’s teacher found ways to pick on Lindsey. Lindsey couldn’t figure out why, but it was obvious that her teacher didn’t like her. After a couple of months, Lindsey’s mother started to become concerned. She noticed that no matter how much homework Lindsey completed one night, she was always stuck with more the next. Lindsey was losing a lot of weight. She was coming home from school and going straight to her room to finish her homework and staying there throughout the night. She wasn’t eating dinner, and seemed to be quite depressed. Lindsey’s mother went to Lindsey’s room and asked Lindsey to tell her everything that was going on at school. Once Lindsey finished telling her mother everything that her teacher was doing to her at school, her mother decided that it was mental and emotional abuse, and that something needed to be done to stop it. The next day Lindsey’s mother went to school with Lindsey. With the principals permission, she sat in class with Lindsey for the entire day. Mrs. Denmark was quite nice to Lindsey throughout the entire day. Once they returned home, Lindsey told her mother that it was all fake and that her teacher had never been nice to her before that. Fortunately for Lindsey, her mother knew that she was telling the truth and that the teacher was being abusive. Linda decided that the matter needed to be addressed as soon as possible. The next morning she went to the school’/s principal and reported the problem. Even the school’s principal denied the allegations without even investigating for himself. For the next few days Lindsey’s mother decided to observe from outside the classroom, without the teacher or the principal’s knowledge. Not only did she observe verbal abuse toward Lindsey, but toward a couple of other students as well.
