Boom!!! Boom!!!

Gun shots rang out as I watched a number of birds tumble from the sky. Thud, thud, could be heard as these powerfully, winged, machines crashed to the earth.

The birds, that were left, began squawking wildly as they scattered in all directions. A few more shots were heard and a few more birds plummeted to their death. Then, silence fell upon the area just as quickly as the birds appeared. The drums were quiet, the music stopped playing, and no one was saying a word. The sky had returned to normal as the sun, once again, peeked through the white clouds. The breeze was still trickling through the swaying trees. Black and red feathers could be seen, strewn across the ground. The birds were nowhere to be seen.

A number of minutes passed, as I stood motionless, trying to figure out what just happened and what to do next. In the distance, I could hear the celebration had begun again. Dazed and confused, I once again started walking aimlessly up the rocky terrain, pondering what had just occurred over the last few minutes.

The music and voices were getting louder, as I continued up the path. As I approached the end of the path, I could see a clearing where people were dancing, laughing, and having a great time. I couldn’t help but wonder why these five hundred plus people were so jubilant.
