"Jennifer, you can sit here all night if you want. Does Michael know that you know?"
"I tried to reach him after I left the coffee shop and was heading over here. All I got was his answering message, so typical of him. I never reach him when I call. I always have to wait for him to return my calls. I left him a scathing message, I'm not sure if he has enough nerve to call me back and discuss this like I told him too, we'll see. Can we not talk about it for now?"
John looked down at Jennifer. Of course he didn't mind holding her, other than being a bad situation for her it was very good for him. "We won't mention it again unless you want to, and of course you can stay here, for as long as you want, I'm here for you." Jennifer calmed down in ten minutes and her breathing became more normal. John realized that Jennifer had fallen asleep in his arms. He nuzzled his face into her soft hair, breathing in the fragrance that was her. In his minds fantasy she was here with him, there was no Michael. John knew better, but it felt good to imagine that. Holding her close, he too fell asleep too. An hour and a half later, the Porter woke them up to advise them to keep their door closed and locked for safety reasons, especially when they slept during the night.
The Porter asked what time they wanted him to make up their two sleeping compartments. They looked at each other, John shrugged. Jennifer asked the Porter if ten thirty would be okay. The Porter said anytime would be fine and that he would be back at ten thirty to make them up. She then asked the Porter the direction to the restroom and the dining car.
She walked down the hallway to the restroom. When she returned she almost looked her normal self. She had cleaned up her face and redone her mascara. The puffiness of her eyes of earlier was mostly gone. She stood at the doorway to John's compartment. "Shall we go see what adventure awaits us in the dining car?"
After dinner, they sat at their table, sipping the last of their wine. They had hardly spoke through dinner. John nodded his head in approval. "That was much better than airline food. I think I've had worse in few really fine restaurants I've been to. How was yours?"
"It was surprisingly good. This wine is not half bad either I think I'm really starting to like Italian wine. The server said it was a Sangiovese wine from Tuscany. I'm more of a white wine person but this was excellent for a red." They both just stared at each other for a moment, not knowing what to say next.
