John looked down to his wristwatch. "We have about a half hour until the Porter makes up our beds for us. Would you care to go check out the bar car with me?"
"Is that what they are really called, bar cars?"
"Maybe not, but it's the best I could come up with on such short notice."
"You're funny, I like that. Okay I'm game, let's check out your, bar car."
They both sat down as the Porter came over to take their drink order. John looked over to Jennifer. "What would you care to drink Jennifer?'
Jennifer looked at John first then to the Porter. "I make it a habit never to mix my drinks, I had wine with dinner so I will have another wine please."
John nodded his head. "Sounds good for me too, two glasses of Sangiovese wine please." The Porter turned to get their drinks. He returned in a moment with two glasses of wine, John paid for the drinks and gave the Porter a tip as well. The Porter started to turn around but John stopped him with a question. "I'm sorry but we were just wondering, what do they call this car on the train?"
The Porter smiled at them. "They call it the bar car Signore."
Jennifer and John looked at each other and started to laugh, the Porter looked at them as if they're crazy, shook his head and walked away. "Well John, you get first prize for making up the correct name, bar car, who would have believed that."
"Earlier I was looking at the map of Italy and I was a little confused, it didn't seem that far between Rome and Venice for this trip to take ten and a half hours."
"I wanted a sleeper train because I had never been on one and this would make for a longer adventure. You see this being an overnight train this train will stop at every station stop on the line. A lot of locals use it as a commuter train to take them back to their little towns they live in. The shorter three and a half hour trains run earlier in the day and bypass most of the smaller station stops."
They finished two more glasses of wine each before they retired to their rooms. Jennifer's compartment was first. She opened up the door to see her bed pulled down and the pillow, sheets and blanket stacked neatly and waiting for her. She turned her head around to look at John standing behind her. "Looks cozy, this will do, goodnight John and thanks again for being here for me."
