Breathless: In Love With An Alpha Billionaire (A Sample) - Page 24/27

"Sure," I said, trying not to pay too much attention to the way her eyes fluttered when she spoke his name. After observing her some more, I figured I must've been paranoid after seeing him at the club the night before. I shrugged her statement off. Jacob had introduced me to Susie via email as a potential client, so her business referral had come to me through him. Turning on my heels to face her, I said, "I will most definitely tell him, Mrs. Alexander. It is Mrs., right?"

"Oh, no, I'm single and on the prowl, honey," she said, smiling mischievously. "Ain't none of these men safe around here," Susie said becoming looser than she had been the entire meeting. She winked her eye, running her pale fingers through her curly brown hair as she laughed.

"I hear you. Well, I'll be in touch with you very soon with the final PR plans. Right now, I'd better get going. Thanks again for the business. Have a great day," I said, attempting to keep our relationship all business. I turned away and walked to the elevator, wondering if Jacob was banging Susie, too.

He was standing by the entrance when I made it downstairs. He had this apologetic look on his face, while holding a bouquet of pink roses in his hands. I was angry, but my heart still skipped a beat upon seeing him. Without saying a word, Jacob enclosed me in his arms and kissed me. He didn't seem to care that passersby saw us kissing. A kiss that almost made me forget about last night. Almost.

I pulled away from him and caught his stare. "We need to talk," I said, walking over to the nearest bench to sit down.

He walked over to me and slowly sat down. His face showed that he was cautious about what I was going to say. "Sounds serious…especially when I thought you would be more enthused to see me."

"I would have been enthused to see you last night," I said bluntly.

"I apologized for that. Why are you so upset?" he said, touching my hand.

I stared at him, studying every line and contour of his face. I couldn't believe this man was going to sit in my face and act like I was the one with the issue. "I saw you," I spoke. I didn't mean to blurt it out, but I was so pissed off that I needed to get an answer. "I. Saw. You," I again spoke through clenched teeth. My sudden nerves were gone and I was ready for him to start talking.
