Breathless: In Love With An Alpha Billionaire (A Sample) - Page 25/27

"What?" he asked the question, but his sudden pale complexion proved that he knew what I was talking about.

"Last night at the lounge… who was the girl that was sucking your face?"

I saw anxiety cross his face before he looked away. When he looked back to me, there was hurt behind his eyes. "Justine," he spoke, as if that was supposed to mean something to me.

"Go on!" I said.

"My girlfriend, I mean ex-girlfriend," he added.

I processed his words and part of me was still reeling from the news. I half expected him to say that she was some girl that he met up with and it meant nothing because he was in love with me. I wanted him to say that he got drunk, was stupid, and found himself caught up in kissing someone else.

"Girlfriend?" I asked, as my right hand itched to slap the taste out of his mouth.

He slowly nodded, "We used to live together."

My jaw dropped open. It wasn't just a girlfriend. To find out they had lived together was getting to be too much. "You have got to be kidding me." I looked down at the flowers that were still clutched in my hand. My hand was grasped around them tightly. Without thinking, I threw the flowers at him and jumped to my feet. "You are the lowest piece of shit."

I turned around and walked out of the building towards my car. Before I reached my car, I felt two strong arms holding me.

"Let me go," I said, reaching for my door handle and opening the door.

"Wait Destiny, listen!" he pleaded. He kept one hand on the door and one hand on my waist, as I slowly turned to him. "Just hear me out!"

"Hear you say what? Why would I want to hear you out when I saw you kissing another woman? And…I saw your chemistry too. Then you tell me she's your girlfriend?" My heart was breaking all over again.

"She's my ex-girlfriend. It's over between us," he said, his eyes boring holes into me. "I broke up with her."

I was in disbelief that he thought I would buy that. "Really? Last night did not appear to look like things were ending. Did she move out? Did you call an overnight U-Haul?"

"Well…" he began, but I threw my hands up and shook my head.

"You don't need to say anything else. What I saw spoke volumes, Jacob."

"You don't understand. She's not just some ex-girlfriend. She was my best friend first. I have known for a while now that we were growing apart, but she's too unstable to just dump and move on."
