The boy stood behind his bodyguards as if he knew death was awaiting him just 20 feet or so away. Flash bulbs from the paparazzi blazed the room as they tried to capture the young pop star on film. Like a cat, Aurora worked her way across the room trying to angle herself within the best position for the hit. With so many people in the room, she herself was amazed to have caught sight of one of the other Kill Fest gamers. Tom Crow, one of the oldest competitors in the challenge, stood a mere ten feet from her. His eyes too were on Bear and from his place in the cluster of people, he didn't see his opponent standing so near. She wouldn't have even known him at all had she not studied each and every one of her adversaries from the Kill Fest web site.
He too seemed to have the same idea, kill the pop star before he even made into this room. As Aurora wormed her way around her rival, she remembered Crows attack pattern, he was not the type to make a hit out in the open like her or Vegas. Crow was more of an ambush striker; his blueprint was to stop his intended target by being polite and most often asking for something simple like driving directions. Once they were engaged and their guard down, he would take them out. A former Louisville, Kentucky policeman, his days of being a cop ended when he lost control and shot a child murder suspect to death in cold blood. Sent into an early retirement, Crow sank into a hollowness of despair of drink and ladies of night as his only comfit.
It was one such hooker he was spending time with who gave him the idea of his most recent career. When the young tarts pimp started to work her over after not bringing in enough cash for the night, Crow took it upon himself to rid the girl of her suppressor. Soon the 57 year old found his new calling and vanquished other street women's unholy street agents. This would soon become a feeling of empowerment that he started to crave and soon found himself taking orders on such jobs. It didn't take long before the disgraced lawman embraced his new occupation and added other lowlifes to his target list. Seeing an all new possibility with Kill Fest, the former cop headed for Las Vegas to add his gun into play.
Aurora ambled herself within feet of the man in the red and blue plaid flannel shirt. She thought that he looked even more raggedy than in his photo on the Kill Fest web site with his unkempt graying hair and elongated black and gray beard. His dull blue eyes were nearly hidden completely under low slung eyelids that gave him the nickname of "The Basset Hound." He was as far removed from Jimmy Vegas in composure and grace as one could get…and yet the two men were about to pounce on her target if she didn't strike first.
