The Anthrax Scare - Page 39/46

"I thought we were leaving the state not the country. What about my family?"

"You can return when it calms down."

"I guess I have no choice. Let's do this."

"I'm sorry Cyrus, it's for safety of both of us and you're family."

"I understand."

"All right." Grey walked over to the container and opened it. "Have your men dump it out of the west window towards the White House." Grey grinned wickedly.

Cyrus nodded to us. I glanced at Keith and knew it was now or never. I pulled off the mask as I grabbed my gun, Keith did the same.

"FREEZE FEDERAL AGENTS!" Keith yelled.

"Cyrus, you betrayed me!" Grey and the four men went for their weapons as all hell broke loose. Shots were fired in all directions. I took out the two men closest to us and Keith took out the two farthest from us. Grey had the gun pointed at Cyrus and Keith tackled him to the ground. The gun went flying but not before a shot fired.

Cyrus crumpled to the floor. I turned to Keith who had Grey on his back with his hands restrained in front of him. He looked like he had things under control so I ran to Cyrus and found that he had been shot in the face. I knew he wasn't going to make it judging from the amount of blood already lost.

"Cyrus, hang on."

"You tell my . . . wife . . . I made it right . . . you tell her I love her . . . and I'm sorry," he whispered as the life drained out of him.

"I will."

He gasped and then his eyes closed. I shook my head and was surprised to hear struggling. I got up and turned around only to find a gun pointed in my face. I glanced over at Keith who looked as if the wind had been knocked out of him.

Grey grabbed me and I felt the cold steel of the gun pressed against my neck. He took my gun and tossed it. I again looked at Keith and saw that his right leg was bleeding. Grey must have had a hidden knife, he had used it and now I was in trouble. Of course, it wasn't Keith's fault. I shouldn't have turned my back or assumed things were in control, I had broken a major rule in doing so.

Keith slowly stood up. I could see the look of anger and heartache in his eyes. "Let her go, you won't get far there are agents everywhere."

"Ah, that's where you're wrong. She's my ticket out of here. But don't worry I'll take care of her while she's useful." Grey winked at Keith. I saw his fists clench and anger flashed across his face.
